CSW|ST2 Monster Mash – Celebrate our Social Media Launch!

25 Oct

We are finally getting into the groove now with our blog, Facebook page, and Twitter (@CSWST2) page so we thought that we would celebrate our social media launch with a party! Who said engineers couldn’t let loose every now and then? Since Halloween is on Monday we wanted to offer a treat of our own and give away four prizes to anyone who visits any (or all) of our social media sites! We are having a great time bringing you new information about CSW|ST2, keeping you up to date with our projects, and searching for innovative engineering ideas from around the world.

Here’s the trick:

Go to the CSW|ST2 Facebook page, this blog post, or Twitter (@CSWST2) and leave us a comment with the words “Trick or Treat” and you’ll be entered in our drawing on Halloween! You’ll have until 4:00 Monday, October 31st to say hello and go trick or treating! We’ll announce winners on the blog at 5:00!

Now for the treat:

You can win one of the following four prizes!

  • Two sets of two tickets (2 seats) to the November 13th 49ers game against the New York  Giants
  • $100 gift certificate to the restaurant of your choice
  • Two bottles of award-winning Pinot Noir

Join in on the party and come celebrate with us! No costume required!

Dominican University Athletic Field Construction Underway!

21 Oct

CSW|ST2 was out on site this week as Dominican University of California started work on the rough grading of their new athletic field. The synthetic field is part of a larger multi-purpose complex that also includes 6 tennis courts, a large 100 space parking lot, restrooms, and associated utilities. CSW|ST2 prepared the grading and drainage plans, utility plans, and are providing construction administration support and staking together with R.W. Davis & Associates. We have teamed up again with TWM Architects and Planners, who designed the restrooms and are acting as the Project Coordinator for Dominican University.

The new fields, funded through private donations, will help Dominican to compete at the higher NCAA Level II and allow students to train on-site. The University is also hoping to support community events and provide field time for local schools in San Rafael and Marin County. We’ll be there to cheer on the teams! Go Penguins!

UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay Topping Out Ceremony

20 Oct

CSW|ST2 joined the development team on Monday, October 17th, for the UCSF Medical Center at Mission Bay Topping Out celebration. As you watch the video you can see that the last piece of steel is painted white and signed by the owners, workers, donors, etc. which is a tradition in the construction industry. The tree on top of the beam symbolizes growth and brings luck to the project. Congratulations not only goes to UCSF and the incredible team of designers and engineers, but to our own project manager, Kerry Ettinger, and his team for 5 years of dedication and hard work on the hospital project.

Northbound Piedmont Avenue – CSW|ST2 Construction Management

12 Oct

Northbound Piedmont Avenue – Completion of road replacement and striping

The pavement has been laid, the striping is complete and Berkeley’s Northbound Piedmont Avenue improvements are coming to a close as the last few blocks of stone are being placed over the next few days.  CSW|ST2 has been involved with the construction management of the Northbound Piedmont Avenue Improvements which included three components:

  1. Extending approximately 900 lf of new 12″ sanitary sewer line from the California Memorial Stadium (CMS) site to the end of an existing City of Berkeley sewer line near Bancroft Way East.
  2. Replacing approximately 600 lf of  sidewalk alongside the Student Athlete High Performance Center and the stadium. It is now a 9′ wide concrete sidewalk with a 6″ high x 25″ wide Sierra granite block edging.
  3. Removing and replacing approximately 800 lf of 24′ wide x 10″ deep asphalt roadbed. It is now replaced and re-striped to include a 5′ bike lane in lieu of replacing vehicle parking the parking area was striped for ‘scooters only’ in a year-long test to see if the demand will be high enough to make a permanent change.

Northbound Piedmont Avenue road replacement

Another construction management project CSW|ST2 has been involved with has been the South East Campus Utility Upgrade project. The campus installed new steam piping from the campus main loop to both the Student Athlete High Performance Center (SAHPC) and the California Memorial Stadium (CMS) facilities as well as the International House, a 600+ student housing facility next door to the Stadium. Within this same project, we installed and extended the campus ICCS conduit network to the SAHPC and CMS facilities.

As a friend of mine says in response to hard work – “I like the red meat”, and we certainly liked the “red meat” challenges and collaborations that came with these projects.
